I use my points all the time. For my Europe trip last year, I used 400K United miles, plus 100K IHG points. For my upcoming trip to Alaska, I used 250K AA miles and will use another 50-70K hotel points across SPG and Hyatt properties.
I amass my points because I never stop getting new credit cards and bonuses. Most of the non-American Express products can be applied for again after two years have lapsed since your last bonus.
how do you amass 3 million miles/points? do you not use any?
