Airline Alliances

There are three major airline alliances, One World, Star Alliance, and Sky Team, to which the soon-to-be three American based airlines belong. In addition to alliances, many of the airlines have partnerships with other airlines that are outside of their alliance. It is important to be aware of this as it presents more opportunities for using your airline miles for award flights. Below I have provided the three alliances and their airlines as of 12/17/2014. In future posts, I will refer to some or all of these alliances. Knowing which airlines are in which alliance is vital to maximizing your flight opportunities.

One World

American Airlines and US Airways belong to the One World alliance. They will soon complete their merger and US Airways will cease to exist. Below is the list of 15 airlines in this alliance. I have also included the main geographical area of service for some of the airlines that may not be well known.
