I am in the planning and booking stages of an Alaskan cruise
next summer. I booked my cruise a couple months ago. I enjoy reviewing the excursions that the
cruise lines offer as a way of getting ideas. I rarely book excursions with the
cruise line, but they do have great ideas. Anyway, while doing some excursion
research, I found myself pricing out my same cruise again.
Did you know that cruises have best price guarantees? Well, when
I searched my cruise, I found that the price was $150 less than when I booked,
and they were offering $100 in onboard credit. I immediately got on the phone
with Royal Caribbean. After about 10 minutes of speaking with an RC agent, I had
my cruise re-priced and had my onboard credit. $250 savings for 10 minutes on
the phone. That’ s one heck of an hourly rate.
The trick is that travel providers know that most of their
clients will not check and re-check pricing, so re-pricing at the best price
guarantee rarely is necessary. I know that everyone does not have infinite available
time to check their booked travel plans, but as you can see, there are some significant
savings that can be had.
And so, here’s the message, if you do have the time, check
if there’s a better price.
